The Importance of History

History is the balance principle against which human endeavors are measured, critiqued, revised, and changed. All nations and religious communities universally acknowledge the advantages of the science of histiography. Allah ta`ala uses the evidence of the chronicles of the human situation to make a case against their rebellion. He utilizes the arguments of history as the basis for His evidence in the face of the recalcitrance of the People of the Book. Allah ta`ala says:

“O people of the Book why do you debate about Ibrahim when the Torah and the Injeel were not revealed until after him. Will you not use your intellects?” [Qur’an 3:65]

History and the time line that it creates are used to address fallacies of their claims of spiritual priority. Further in the Quran the precedence is given for the study of history as a genuine social science from the words of Allah ta`ala. He says:

“Verily, I narrate to you some of the tidings of the messengers in order to make it firmly established in your mind, that you may bring from this Truth clear lessons and reminders to those who believe.” [Qur’an 11:120]

The scholars take the concept ‘the tidings of the messengers’ as a clear license for the study of history as a form of individual and social transformation. Allah ta`ala also says:

“There is certainly in their chronicles a lesson for those of understanding.” [Qur’an 12:111]

  1. Masha’Allah thanks for posting…yes this is the original message to the Black Man telling him who his lord is when some of our people had forgotten. And the scrip is nice on the letter…similar to the actual script of Rasoolallah(SalAllahuAlayhiwassalam)

    • wa alaykum as salaam wa rahma
No doubt that this letter defines the mission statement for every Muslim of African descent. The concepts of walaa (sainthood) walla (sovereignty) and tawaala (successive continuity) as delineated by Messenger of Allah in his letter is what distinguished African Islamic civilization and defines its asabiyya (point of solidarity). The use of the concept junnud (military/governmental forces) is by the Prophet is recognition of African Muslim sovereignty and excludes them forever from having to subsum themselves under Arab, Persian, European or any other hegmony. The African are designated by Divine Writ to Self Determination.

  2. As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh,

Shaykh Muhammad is it possible to provide the poem of Waziri Junayd in arabic, specifically his mentioning the importance of lineage.

Jazak Allahu Khayr ‘anaa Khayrul Aljazaa

“Whoever does not inform his children of his grandfathers Then has destroyed his child, marred his descendants, And injured his offspring the day he dies.
Whoever does not make use of his ancestry, Then he has muddled his reason
Whoever is not concerned with his descent, Then he has lost his mind.
Whoever neglects his origin, Then his stupidity has become critical
Whoever does not know his roots, Then his idiocy has become great.
Whoever does not cause his ancestry to be abundant Then his opinion has become corrupted.
Whoever is ignorant of his lineage Then his intellect has dissipated.
Whoever does not increase his place of descent, Then he has abolished his honor.”
